Restricted Active Members are youth members between the age of 16-18. The status is a youth restricted access of membership of the Fire Department that allows young men and woman to join at a restricted level, most importantly due to the youths still being in high school. Restricted Active Members (RAM's) go through training and obtain a Level 1 certification to be able to ride fire apparatus. They are allowed to train with the firefighters except use hydraulic power tools and enter in any building that is on fire. RAM's do get the advantage to obtain regular firefighter training at thier level which helps them become firefighters at a faster pace once they turn 18 years of age and graduate high school.
